GOLF COURSES

Arzaga

Far from the sounds of the city, in the heart of nature - within easy reach of major treasures of art and music - and characterized by the sunset, to be enjoy on the fascinating terrace when the delicate light of the lake merges into that of the sky

Gardagolf

GARDA GOLF, a standout course, covers 110 hectares with a 27-hole layout designed by British architects. It showcases breathtaking views of Rocca di Manerba, the Castle of Soiano, and the Valtenesi hills. The course caters to top-level tournaments and stretches over nearly 200 acres.
The 27 holes offer stunning panoramas, winding from the Manerba fortress to the Castle of Soiano and the hills of Polpenazze. With a mild Lake Garda climate, golf is a year-round pleasure. The course features cypress trees, olive groves, and centuries-old oaks, offering exciting yet moderately challenging holes.
Situated above Lake Garda, the course enjoys a mild winter climate, protected by the Dolomites. Close to Brescia, Bergamo, and Milan, GardaGolf has gained popularity. Designed by architects Cotton, Penninck & Steel, it includes nine flat and nine hilly holes, making it suitable for various skill levels. Water hazards and well-placed bunkers add to the challenge, while straight-hitters will find the course accommodating. Discover this superb course in a remarkable region.

Menaggio

It was in 1907 that a certain Mr. Wyatt, son and heir of a wealthy British subject, came as a tourist to the hills above Grandola and Uniti. He fell in love with the place and settled there with his wife. A perfect English gentleman cannot survive without his game of golf and Mr. Wyatt was no exception. He organized a makeshift 9-hole course which soon became a favourite meeting place for golf-lovers in the area. In the fifties the Golf Club was handed over to Italians. Mention should be made of the golfing library, second only to S. Andrew's.
The par 70 of the Menaggio and Cadenabbia Golf Club says something of the course, while short by modern standards it requires precision and careful thought. The simple length printed on the card does begin to describe the fascinating and unique nature of the ground, the obvious challenges and subtle difficulties, of the narrow fairways and the steep inclines.
While the length of the course explains why the course has never, and probably never will be, a venue of International Opens. The attractiveness of being among the "open" courses is not one of the worries of the club, which prefers discretion. This club only needs its history, the friendly profile of the lake, the narrow holes amongst the trees and the back drop of the Central Alps.

Villa d'Este

The Villa d'Este Golf Club lies beyond the wonderful lake of Montorfano in a splendid setting in the sunny Brianza. The course is situated at a height of 1200 feet in what may well be described as a Scottish landscape. Golfers will find play pleasant even in the heat of August.
The course was designed in 1926 by Peter Gannon and the 18 holes wend their way between chestnut groves, birch and pine woods. It is considered one of the most varied and difficult of the European "par 69" courses. This is borne out by the number of important international tournaments held at the Villa d'Este each year. The club house has views over some of the holes and the lake of Montorfano.
Comment read on the Peugeot Golf Guide
Designed in 1926 by Peter Gannon, Villa D'Este has rapidly become one of the gems of Italian golf courses, much of which is due to a location close to the long Lake Como, where small harbours give way to exotic gardens around superb villas. The finest of these villas in Cernobbio has been transformed into one of the most charming hotels you could wish to find, the ideal site for a holiday... if not on too tight a budget. Villa d'Este, alongside the small lake of Montorfano, is a rather hilly course set amidst pine, chestnut and birch trees but is easily walkable all the same. Yardage is not too demanding but you need to develop good technique to play well here, bending the ball both ways especially on the six par 3s. There are only two par 5s but both offer a real chance of a birdie. A superb club-house adds the final touch to this tranquil and elegant site.

Varese

The massive gray square structure of the Monastery of Luvinate stands out clearly from the green of the golf course which slopes gently down the Campo dei Fiori: this is the Varese Golf Club, one of the most renowned and characteristic of the old established clubs. It was not new to Varese as one of the first courses in Italy was created at the Hotel Excelsior in 1898. The medieval monastery of Luvinate dates back to the XII century and makes ideal premises for a club house. Skilfully restored, it has housed the club house since 1934 and the historical and architectural setting is unique. The 18-hole course comes up to expectations in all ways and is pervaded with the atmosphere of the club's long history.
Comment read on the Peugeot Golf Guide
Varese is a city that has developed only recently, located between Lake Lugano and Milan. This course was built above Lake Varese, one of the smallest lakes in Lombardy, where the climate is particularly mild and sunny. The more religious-minded golfer won't want to miss visiting the Sacro Mont, the site of a great pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary plus the added bonus of wonderful views over lakes and mountains. This region is not only a tourist destination, it also worth visiting for the originality of this course. It might not be very long but the hilly terrain requires a certain level of fitness and control when hitting the ball from tricky situations and sloping lies. Club selection is seldom straightforward, especially since a number of greens are elevated and many are two-tiered, making accuracy a must. If your round didn't go so well, the superb clubhouse (a former monastery) offers solace and consolation from where you can admire the beautiful landscape..

Des Îles Borromées

Golf Club Des Iles Borromées, situated 600 meters above sea level, offers golfers a beautiful alpine experience with views of Sempione and Val Grande mountains. On a clear day, the 18th hole tee provides panoramic views of Milan's skyline, Lago Maggiore, Lago di Varese, Monate, Comabbio, and the Ticino Alps. The course is graced by natural flora, including birches, pines, ash, larch, oak, holm oak, and chestnut trees. The layout was thoughtfully designed by architect Marco Croze, utilizing the natural terrain's slopes and hazards. Each hole presents its unique challenge, with hole 5 as a par 3, 150 meters uphill, and hole 11 as a challenging par 5 measuring 525 meters with a lake bordering the green. The course is open year-round, offering pleasant temperatures and a gentle breeze, making it a golfing paradise in the Lake Maggiore region.

Bogogno

Crafted by American architect Robert von Hagge, Circolo Golf Bogogno features two championship 18-hole, par 72 courses set within 220 hectares of pristine natural beauty. With woods, lakes, streams, and stunning views of Monte Rosa, the courses offer a combination of technical excellence and breathtaking landscapes.
Circolo Golf Bogogno has been a beloved destination since 1996, known for its spectacular courses designed by Robert von Hagge. The courses thoughtfully contour the terrain, offering both challenges and beautiful views. Players can expect a layout reminiscent of Scotland with wide-open spaces and various hazards.
Bonora Course: Bonora combines nine original holes with nine new, more challenging ones, creating a beautiful, yet demanding, golfing experience for players of all levels.
Del Conte Course: Opened in 1996, Bogogno quickly became one of Italy's most spectacular courses, known for its thoughtful layout, dramatic views of the Alps and Monte Rosa, and wide-open spaces that require skill and strategy. The course combines nine original holes with nine new ones.

Castelconturbia

Castelconturbia Golf Course is a gem designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., renowned for its stunning natural surroundings and challenging terrain. With 27 holes spread across three courses (Red, Yellow, and Blue), it provides varied golfing experiences suitable for all levels of players. The course, set against the backdrop of ancient forests and mountains, is known for its small lakes and slightly rippled terrain, creating a picturesque setting. The club offers various amenities, including a Club House with guest rooms, an excellent restaurant, a pool, tennis courts, a gym, a driving range, and putting greens.
Hole 7 on the Yellow Course: Hole 7 is a technically spectacular par 4, featuring pine woods at the tee and an oak tree area leading to the green. The view from the green, with the Club House and Monte Rosa in the background, is unforgettable. The green, perched above a small pond surrounded by weeping willow trees, creates a picturesque scene, especially when beautifully lit in the evening from the Club House terrace.

Sightseeing Gems

Arena of Verona

The Verona Arena, or Arena di Verona in Italian, is a Roman amphitheater in Verona, dating back to 30 AD. It stands as one of the world's best-preserved ancient structures. With external dimensions measuring 499 by 403 feet, it ranks as the third-largest Roman amphitheater, following the Colosseum and Capuan amphitheater. In ancient times, it accommodated over 30,000 spectators, although today's safety measures limit capacity to 15,000. Its elliptical design enhances acoustic quality during performances. Originally used for gladiator contests, circuses, and equestrian events, the Arena now hosts concerts and, most famously, a summer opera season, drawing over 500,000 attendees annually.

Villa Carlotta in Lake Como

Villa Carlotta on Lake Como preserves a rich historical, artistic, and botanical legacy, welcoming visitors from around the world. Constructed in the late 17th century by the Milanese Clerici marquises, the villa narrates three centuries of remarkable collections. It also unveils a captivating botanical garden, drawing thousands of global tourists annually. The Italian Garden, a structured formal garden with symmetrical design, fountains, statues, and terraces enclosed by stone balustrades, mirrors the 18th-century Enlightenment era's philosophy emphasizing reason over sentiment and humanity's dominance over nature.

The Last Supper

"The Last Supper," a late 15th-century mural by Leonardo da Vinci in Milan's Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, measures 15 feet by 28.8 feet. Leonardo started it in 1495, completing it in 1498. This iconic painting portrays Christ's final meal with his apostles, a pivotal moment before his arrest. Noted for its portrayal of Christ's revelation of betrayal and the institution of the Eucharist, the painting evokes strong emotional responses in the apostles. Despite the dramatic scene, Leonardo brings order to the composition, incorporating Christian symbolism related to the number three. The artwork's preservation has faced challenges over the centuries due to materials, techniques, humidity, pollution, and wartime incidents. Seven documented restoration efforts have been made, with the most extensive in 1999.

The Duomo of Milan

The Milan Cathedral, or Duomo di Milano, is Italy's second-largest church after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and the third-largest Catholic church globally. Its construction began in 1386, with the main spire crowned by a Madonna statue in 1762. The roof's towers were completed in the 19th century, and the final touches were added in 1965. This Gothic marvel is made of brick with Candoglia marble and boasts over 3,159 statues, more than any other building globally. The cathedral's Latin cross shape covers 12,000 square meters and can accommodate 40,000 people. Its highest point features the Madonnina, a 13.6-foot golden statue at 356 feet. A small red light in the dome marks the spot where a nail from the Crucifixion is said to be placed. Visitors can explore the roof for unparalleled views, stretching as far as the Alps and Apennines on clear days.

WHY "GOLF IN ITALY”

"Golf in Italy" is not just a suggestion; it's the name of our Italian-based company, operating since 1984 with the primary aim of promoting golf in Italy. As you can imagine, we encountered challenges in persuading golfers to consider Italy as a potential destination for their golf vacations. However, times have changed, the Ryder Cup in Rome has ended, and Italy now frequently graces the catalogs of leading golf operators worldwide. We like to believe that this newfound recognition is a testament to our unwavering belief in Italy's golfing potential all those years ago. With our extensive experience, we take pride in being the #1 choice among Italian golf agencies. We offer a level of service and assistance that sets us apart from the rest, and we are committed to delivering exceptional golf experiences in Italy.

The GOLF IN ITALY Experience

"Welcome to Italy, the land of Food, Wine, Art, Motors, Soccer, and... Good Golf Life!
You may wonder, what does golf have to do with all of that? It's a good question! Let's find a way to connect golf with the unique aspects that define Italy.

When we began promoting Italy as a golf destination, we found ourselves up against fierce competition from well-known golf destinations like the British Isles, Spain, and Portugal. We felt like a boutique shop trying to compete with a supermarket. So, what was our solution? We decided to present Italy as a boutique destination, where clients could discover some of the most refined experiences all in one place. And what better place than Italy for such fine things?

Imagine waking up at 7 am, enjoying breakfast at 7:45 am, heading to the golf course by 9 am, teeing off at 9:30 am, savoring lunch or a beer with snacks at the 19th hole, returning to the hotel by 3:30 pm for a quick refresh, venturing out to explore the town or go on an excursion at 4 pm, indulging in an aperitif while sitting outside a bar in a charming square, watching people go by and savoring the last hours of sunshine at 8 pm, and finally, having a delightful dinner at a restaurant at 8:45 pm. At 11 pm, you can once again immerse yourself in the town for...

Doesn't it sound enticing? However, we don't want to distract you from golf, so let's discuss the golf courses in Italy."

Best Golf Courses in Italy

160 golf courses setting the stage for everything else!

To golf in Italy is often perceived as a sport reserved for the affluent, although, in reality, activities like skiing often entail higher costs. The misconception persists due to the absence of public courses, as Italy predominantly boasts private clubs, inadvertently reinforcing the notion that golf is an exclusive pastime that deters many from exploring it as a new sporting pursuit. In further affirmation of golf's perceived exclusivity, the highest concentration of courses is found in Northern Italy, considered the country's wealthiest area. Stretching from Turin to Venice, encompassing captivating regions like Lake Maggiore, Lake Como, Milan, Lake Garda, and Verona, there are a staggering 160 golf courses to be discovered. The prime areas for golf enthusiasts, where one can revel in the opportunity to play a different course each day, include Piedmont, the Lakes District (comprising Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano, Lake Como, and Lake Garda), Veneto (with Venice as its regional capital), Emilia Romagna, Tuscany (both Florence and the seaside), Umbria, Rome, and the emerging golf destination of Apulia in the South. Although Apulia is gaining prominence, it faces challenges due to limited flight connectivity. Last but certainly not least, Sicily, with an impressive addition of 5 new resorts, brings the total number of courses to 7. With such a concentration of golf courses within each region, travel times are minimal, and the well-developed network of roads and motorways ensures that foreign visitors can effortlessly explore the country, encountering minimal or no logistical hurdles along the way.
